The Numbers Game - February 12, 2013

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

TAMPA BAY – Here's a numerical look at the Habs-Lightning match-up on Tuesday night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

100 – Percentage of home-games the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Canadiens won against each other in 2011-12, with both teams making the most of their home-ice advantage to go 2-2-0, pulling out two wins apiece in their own buildings.

20 – Number of years that elapsed since defenseman Marc Bergevin was picked up by the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of the expansion draft. The future Habs GM played 206 of his 1191 career NHL games as a member of the Tampa Bay squad.

2 – Number of Canadiens who, before tonight, had a points-per-game average of one or more against the Tampa Bay Lightning in their careers, with David Desharnais (eight points in six games) and Max Pacioretty (nine points in eight games) both making the list.

40 – Percentage of career goals scored by Brian Gionta against the Lightning that came on the power play with the Habs captain picking up his third of the season during a 5-on-3 at the end of Tuesday night’s first period.

Game highlights

1 – Number of games that P.K. Subban has played so far this season in which he hasn’t netted at least one point. Subban added another goal to his record on Tuesday night’s second frame after already adding an assist in the first.

37 – Number of picked up by the Canadiens in Tampa Bay since the Lightning’s introduction into the league 20 years ago, posting a record of 37 wins, 31 losses and six ties.

100 – Number of goals scored by the Canadiens against the Lightning in Tampa Bay over the course of the last two decades, with P.K. Subban cracking the milestone with a second period marker.

3 – Number of NHL fights that have gone down between Travis Moen and B.J. Crombeen – a good sign that the two players don’t like each other much. Moen has only fought six other players on two instances in his career.

9 – Number of multi-point games turned in by Lars Eller over the course of his career, with the young Dane assisting on both the Canadiens’ second period markers against Tampa Bay.
