No player will ever forget his first NHL goal. When it comes to telling the tale behind Ryan White’s inaugural marker, though, the Brandon, MB native will have a few extra details to explain to his grandkids some day.

Suiting up for his 34th career NHL game on March 20, 2011 against the Wild, White didn’t take long to get his name on the scoresheet. Just 31 seconds into the game, the gritty winger converted a great feed from Benoit Pouliot to pot his first-ever goal in the big leagues.

But White’s night was far from over. Six minutes later, the 23-year-old forward rushed to the defense of Habs call-up Aaron Palushaj, dropping the gloves against Wild tough guy Clayton Stoner. Then, 1:27 into the final frame, White added an assist on P.K. Subban’s third goal of the night, completing the Gordie Howe hat trick.
