MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens are holding their fourth New and Used Skates Drive on April 5th at the Bell Centre prior to the game against the Detroit Red Wings. This initiative will help several local charities and youngsters who do not have the necessities in sports equipment. The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation flagship outdoor rink BLEU BLANC BOUGE program will be the main beneficiary of this drive. Since 2008, the Foundation has built five multi-sport and refrigerated outdoor community rinks in the boroughs of Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension, Montréal-Nord, Verdun, LaSalle and Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. For its sixth rink, the Foundation leaves the island of Montreal to settle down in Christ-Roi Park in Longueuil, the opening is scheduled for winter 2015. Fans attending the game are invited to contribute by donating new or used skates to this cause. Player spouses along with volunteers of the Foundation will be at various entrances of the Bell Centre to collect the skates. For their contribution, each participant will have the chance to win player-autographed items.
