MONTREAL - It’s been a time of change for Mike Cammalleri of late, but his philosophy of life remains the same.
With so many things being thrown at him since signing with the Habs in July, Cammalleri has kept an even keel through it all. His secret: diet and Pilates.
Local health food stores will likely be seeing a lot of the 27-year-old fitness nut over the course his five-year deal with Montreal.
“Whenever I eat out, it’s no problem. I do have to admit that I have a pretty strict diet, otherwise,” admitted Cammalleri, who picked up his organic ways while playing for the Kings in L.A. “I eat nothing but organic food at home, I find it helps me keep my energy level up all season long.”
A good diet wouldn’t mean much without the right workout regimen. Like any NHL player, Cammalleri puts in his time at practice and in the gym, but it’s his way of winding down that he credits with his overall wellness. Far less violent than his day job, Cammalleri’s Zen roots run deep.
“I always make sure to do my Pilates before going to bed,” revealed Cammalleri. “I used to swear by yoga, but it just took too long!”
On the heels of Jaroslav Spacek facing his former team on Saturday in Buffalo, Cammalleri is about to do the same in Calgary on Tuesday night. His former organic haunts are likely licking their chops at the prospect of seeing their favorite customer walk in their door once again, even if it is for only one day.
