by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

MONTREAL - Goaltender Cristobal Huet is the third recipient of the Molson Cup for the 2005-06 season, as he was named the Player of the Month for January and February.  Andrei Markov (October, December) and Alex Kovalev (November) are previous recipients this season.

With three first star, three second star and three third star selections, Huet collected 45 points in the Molson Cup standings.

During those two months, the 30-year-old goaltender played in 14 games, including 11 as a starter and posted a record of 6-3-2. In 777:12 minutes of action, he allowed just 26 goals for a 2.01 goals-against average and made 390 saves for a .938 save percentage. Between Feb. 2 and Feb. 7, Huet blanked opponents for 173:19 minutes, stopping 88 straight shots. During that stretch, the Canadiens' netminder registered consecutive shutouts against the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers on February 4th and 5th respectively, at the Bell Centre.

Following Thursday night's 1-0 victory in Florida, Huet climbed to second place in the Molson Cup overall standings with 50 points, tied with Saku Koivu. Alex Kovalev leads the overall standings with 55 points.

A presentation honoring the Molson Cup winner will take place on Mar. 13, prior to the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Bell Centre.
