MONTREAL – What would the Stanley Cup Playoffs be without a match-up between the Canadiens and the Bruins?

Following a four-game sweep in Round 1, the Canadiens have been patiently awaiting their second round opponent since Tuesday night. The wait is over and the Habs will once again face off against the Bruins in the NHL postseason.

This will mark the 34th time the two teams will meet up in the springtime in the 90-year rivalry, a record in North American pro sports.

The Canadiens have had Boston’s number historically in the playoffs, winning 24 of those 33 match-ups, including a perfect 7-0 record in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Bruins, however, won the most recent series against Montreal in 2011, beating the Habs in overtime in Game 7 in the conference quarterfinals before going on to win the Cup a few weeks later.

In 2013-14, the Canadiens got the better of Claude Julien’s troops, winning three of the four games against Boston this season, including both on road ice at TD Garden.

The complete series schedule will be released at the end of the first round.
