Development Camp - Scrimmage - Day 5

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

Team A, coached by Donald Dufresne, secured a 4-2 win over Team B in the final scrimmage of the Canadiens’ development camp on Thursday morning, claiming the Prospect Cup.

Martin Reway opened the scoring early in the first period, beating Michael McNiven to give Team A a 1-0 lead just under a minute into the game.

It didn’t take Team B long to respond, though, as invitee Frankie Dichiara put the puck past Hayden Hawkey just minutes later to tie things up 1-1. Dichiara’s wrist shot managed to sneak by Hawkey on the short side.

Invitee Kody McDonald picked up right where he left off on Wednesday, lighting the lamp behind McNiven courtesy of a perfect backhand feed from fellow invitee Reid Duke to give Team A a 2-1 advantage with 10 minutes to go in the opening period.

The two teams would ultimately skate to the dressing room tied 2-2, though, as Team B’s Jeremiah Addison re-directed a Michael McCarron pass beyond the reach of Hawkey with just two minutes remaining in the first frame.

Just over three minutes into the second and final period, Mikhail Sergachev corralled a loose puck in front of Zachary Fucale and found the back of the net to give Team A the 3-2 lead.

Then, William Bitten capped the scoring for Team A seven minutes later with a breakaway goal on Fucale that upped the score to 4-2.
