Carbo's little secret

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
PHILADELPHIA – While the importance of Game 4 to the Canadiens is no secret, the identity of the Habs’ starting goalie for tonight’s game remains a mystery and that suits Guy Carbonneau just fine.

“You will all find out at seven o’clock tonight,” teased Carbonneau regarding his choice between Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak. “Nothing has changed in my approach to this since yesterday. Had I announced who was in nets on Tuesday, there would have been 600 stories out there today about whether my choice was right or wrong. But instead there was nothing in the papers, so I did my job.

“But I also like playing with you guys,” admitted Carbonneau to the media scrum that engulfed him after the Habs optional skate in Philadelphia this morning. “I sat down with both Carey and Jaro individually regarding my decision. You aren’t the only ones wondering who will get the start, their teammates don’t even know.”

All smiles aside, Carbonneau thought long and hard before making the call.

“I talked to other members of the organization, but this was ultimately my decision,” affirmed Carbonneau. “I know the blame will lie with me either way. I’m at peace with my choice and I have no regrets.”

Despite being left in the dark by their head coach, the Canadiens have faith in both of their masked men.

“No matter who is in goal tonight, we know they can get the job done,” said Guillaume Latendresse. “We all know they will be ready.”
