Bulldogs report: Nov. 12, 2008

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
MONTREAL – Despite a rough weekend that saw them drop two of the three games they played, Hamilton continues to be in the thick of the fight for the AHL’s North Division title with 19 points.  A balanced attack has helped propel the Bulldogs to success; four players have already hit double digits in points and a couple more are knocking at the door.

Max Pacioretty
- After a slow start to his professional career, Max Pacioretty has gotten into a groove of late.  The rookie winger scored his first AHL goal back on Oct. 29 and has picked up eight points in his last seven games.

- Plagued by injuries in his final two years in junior, Ben Maxwell is certainly enjoying a healthy start to his pro career.  The rookie center has scored 12 points in 14 games so far and as of Wednesday, sat fourth in the AHL among new recruits.  Two of his five goals have been game-winners.

- Teammate and fellow freshman David Desharnais isn’t too far behind Maxwell.  Desharnais, who inked a two-year deal with the Canadiens on Nov. 5, has amassed 10 points, to rank eighth among league rookies.

- The Bulldogs have scored 49 goals so far this season, the third-best total in the league.  Only the Hershey Bears and Bridgeport Sound Tigers have scored more, lighting the lamp 60 and 51 times already, respectively.

Kyle Chipchura
- The Bulldogs announced last weekend that Kyle Chipchura would be the 10th captain in franchise history.  Donning the “C” is nothing new for Chipchura.  The Habs’ first round pick in 2004 previously held the captaincy with his junior team, the Prince Albert Raiders, as well as led the Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship.  He’s also been an assistant captain twice before, with Team Canada at the 2003 Under-18 Junior World Cup and at the 2004 IIHF Under-18 World Championship.

The Habs’ farm team is enjoying five days off between action.  They’ll next take to the ice in a pair of weekend matchups against the Rochester Americans at Copps Coliseum.
