Andrei Markov underwent successful knee surgery

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier issued an update on Wednesday on the injury status of defenseman Andrei Markov.

Markov underwent successful surgery today to repair a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee. His recovery is estimated to be six months.

Markov, 31, suffered the injury to his right knee during the first period of Game 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Mellon Arena on April 30.

In 2009-10, Markov registered 34 points (6 goals, 28 assists) in 45 games for the Canadiens during the regular season. He . He missed 12 weeks (35 games) due to a foot laceration suffered in the season opener in Toronto back in October. 

Prior to his injury Markov  posted four points (0-4-4) in eight playoff games in 2010 and averaged 23:46 minutes of ice-time.
