was named first start of the NHL’s ’Three Stars’ for the week leading up to Christmas!
NEW YORK -- Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, St. Louis Blues goaltender Manny Legace and Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier have been named the NHL’s ’Three Stars’ for the week ending Dec. 24.
FIRST STAR -- TIM THOMAS, G, BOSTON BRUINS
Thomas backstopped the Bruins to three victories, posting a 1.33 goals-against average and .959 save percentage, stopping 94 of 98 shots. He made 35 saves as Boston defeated the Ottawa Senators 7-2 on Dec. 19 and recorded 39 saves in a 2-0 victory over Vancouver Dec. 21, his first shutout of the season and second of his NHL career. Thomas turned in a stellar third-period performance against the Canucks, turning aside all 14 shots as the Bruins were outshot 14-0 in the final frame. He completed the week by making 20 saves in a 4-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens Dec. 23, improving his season record to 16-8-2 with a 2.92 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.
