THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…

BRUINS SIGN COLTON HARGROVE TO AN ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT: Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced March 27, that the club has signed forward Colton Hargrove to an entry-level contract.

In 34 games for Western Michigan University (NCHC) this season, the 22-year-old forward recorded 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points along with 80 penalty minutes. Hargrove finished the season tied for first on the team in goals, ranked second on the team in points and tied for third on the team in both assists and penalty minutes.

Hargrove played three seasons (2012-15) with Western Michigan University amassing 34 goals and 28 assists for 62 points in 105 career collegiate games with a combined plus-26 rating. Before his college career, Hargrove played two seasons with the Fargo Force of the USHL where he competed in 110 total games with 29 goals, 36 assists and 249 penalty minutes.

Hargrove has participated in the last three Boston Bruins Development Camps. The 6’1’’, 211-pound Dallas, TX native was drafted by Boston in the seventh round (205th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

CUTS FOR A CAUSE RAISES RECORD AMOUNT: On March 25, Patrice Bergeron and 98.5 The Sports Hub hosted the eighth annual Cuts for a Cause and raised a record $130,027 for pediatric cancer. To date the event has raised approximately $500,000 for charity. Proceeds from this year’s event benefitted the Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.

BRUINS AND TD BANK TO HOST MINI 1-ON-1 WINNERS: On Saturday, March 28, the winning Mini 1-on-1 teams at the Squirt, Pee Wee, Girls 10&U and Girls 12&U age levels will be attending the Bruins home game against the New York Rangers. The winners and their families will enjoy a lunch prior to the game and receive their championship trophies. The four bracket winners are from Assabet Valley, Bay State Breakers, Northern (NH) Cyclones and Providence Friars. For more information, visit the “Around Town” section of the Week Ahead.

BRUINS TO HOST MIAA AWARDS: On Tuesday, March 31, the Bruins and the MIAA are partnering for the 13th year to honor a boy and a girl from every hockey league in Massachusetts for best exemplifying a constant commitment to sportsmanship. These students must have an exceptional record of on and off the ice conduct, teamwork, spirit and respectfully accept the rulings of game officials during the season. Bruins alumni will present individuals who were selected for this award with the Boston Bruins MIAA Sportsmanship Award during the Bruins/Panthers game. SHIRTS OFF OUR BACKS TO TAKE PLACE ON APRIL 4: In an effort to thank fans for their continued support throughout the 2014-2015 season, the Boston Bruins will host “Fan Appreciation Night” on Saturday, April 4 when the Bruins take on the Maple Leafs at 7:00 PM. Immediately following the Bruins/Maple Leafs match-up, Bruins players will remain on the ice and hand the “Shirts off their Backs” to fans that were chosen at random throughout the game. Each of these lucky fans will receive a sealed envelope containing the name of a current Bruins player they will receive the game-worn jersey from. BRUINS TO HOST CARLTON AWARDS: The Bruins announced that Samantha Davis of Tabor Academy and Ryan Donato of Dexter School are the recipients of the 2015 John Carlton Award. Named after the late Bruins scout and administrator who passed away in 1982, the John Carlton Award is given annually by the Boston Bruins to an outstanding male and female senior student-athlete, who combines exceptional hockey skills with academic excellence. The honor will be given to Donato and Davis on Saturday, April 4 during the Bruins/Maple Leafs game.

SHIRTS OFF OUR BACK RAFFLE: The Bruins are holding a raffle where one lucky fan can win two (2) tickets to the April 4th game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden. Following the game, the raffle-winner will be presented with the opportunity of a lifetime by being part of the Shirts Off Our Back on-ice ceremony, where they will be escorted to the ice and will receive the game-worn jersey of a randomly selected Bruins player. The player will personalize the jersey and pose for a photo. The raffle will go through April 2 and proceeds from the event will benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation. Please note only the winner will be able to participate in the on-ice ceremony. Raffle tickets can be purchased at bruinsraffles.org.

BRUINS TO HOST 5TH ANNUAL BRUINS FOR BABIES: The Boston Bruins will host Bruins for Babies during the home game against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, March 31 to benefit the March of Dimes. Supporters of the March of Dimes will participate in Zamboni, Bench Assistant, and High-Five experiences. All proceeds from the sale of mystery pucks and 50/50 raffle tickets will benefit the March of Dimes. For more information, visit the “Around Town” section of the Week Ahead.

BRUINS ASSIGN FERLIN TO PROVIDENCE: Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced March 27, that the club had assigned forward Brian Ferlin to Providence. Ferlin competed in seven games for Boston, recording one assist. He made his NHL debut on February 20 against the Blues in St. Louis and notched his first career NHL point with an assist in his second game with Boston on February 22 against the Chicago Blackhawks. In his first full season at the American Hockey League level, the 22-year-old has appeared in 46 games for Providence, notching nine goals and seven assists for 16 points with 36 penalty minutes.

BRUINS ALUMNI TO VISIT RHODE ISLAND: The Bruins Alumni will be traveling to Rhode Island this weekend for two games. On Saturday, March 28 the Bruins Alumni will play the "Another Shot" Team at 6:00 p.m. at the Levy Rink, 452 East Ave. in Harrisville, RI to benefit the Gary "Cooter" Hopkins Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Expected in the lineup are Mike Krushelnyski, John Carter, Glen Featherstone and Frank Simonetti amongst others. On Sunday, March 29, the Bruins Alumni will travel to nearby Smithfield, RI to take on the Sentinels. Players will take the ice for a 2:00 p.m. game at the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink located at 101 Pleasant View Ave in Smithfield, to benefit the Matt Light Foundation. Rick Middleton will be coaching the team consisting of Ray Bourque, Bob Sweeney and a host of Bruins Alumni players. Participating alumni are subject to change.

SEASON 2 OF BEHIND THE B: Season Two of the Black & Gold’s all-access television series “Behind the B” presented by Alex and Ani has begun, with 13 episodes slated to air during the 2014-15 season. All episodes will again be narrated by actor and Worcester, MA native, Denis Leary.

BOSTON BRUINS FOUNDATION 50/50 RAFFLE: During each Boston Bruins home game, the Boston Bruins Foundation conducts the 50/50 raffle presented by Health Services Administrators. Fifty percent of the proceeds go towards the beneficiary hosted by the Bruins Foundation that night, while the other fifty percent of the proceeds go to one lucky winner. The 50/50 program comprises one third of the annual fundraising for the Boston Bruins Foundation. After the winning ticket is selected, the number will be announced in-game giving the winner the opportunity to claim their prize at Guest Services on the Loge Level, Section 4 or by checking the numbers posted on the Bruins Foundation Website within 30 days of the winning game, which can be found at the following link: http://bruins.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=101168.

BRUINS ON THE AIRWAVES: Bruins defenseman Torey Krug has been confirmed as a weekly call-in guest with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Scott Zolak and Marc Betrand, which airs weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while forward Reilly Smith is expected to be regular a guest with 98.5's Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb (Toucher and Rich), which airs weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and Bruins President Cam Neely will also be a guest with Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti (Felger and Mazz) on their show, which airs weekdays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Chris Kelly will be a regular guest on 100.7 WZLX with Kevin Karlson and Pete McKenzie (Karlson & McKenzie), which airs weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Call-in days and times are dependent upon the B’s schedule.

OFF THE ICE…

PATRICE’S PALS: As a part of his continuing charitable initiative Patrice’s Pals, Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron invites children from local hospitals and other organizations to experience a Bruins home game from his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags filled with Bruins memorabilia, a visit from the Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls, as well as a feature on the Garden HDX. After the game, Patrice’s Pals are escorted to ice level and introduced to Patrice himself who signs autographs and takes pictures with his Pals.

COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM: For the entirety of the Boston Bruins 2014-15 regular season, Bruins Chief Executive Officer Charlie Jacobs is donating ten balcony tickets to every home game to children from charitable organizations across New England, who are invited to enjoy a Bruins home game from these donated seats.

BERGERON STREAKING: Patrice Bergeron recorded an assist Thursday night against the Ducks, extending his point streak to four games with 2-2=4 totals during that span.

MILESTONES APPROACHING: Max Talbot is three points short of his 200th NHL point and Reilly Smith is three points shy of his 100th NHL point.

TWO-MINUTE DRILL: 27 goals have been scored by a Bruin in the final two minutes of a period (not counting the five-minute OT period) and are 18-4-1 when this occurs. The B’s have allowed a goal in the last two minutes of a period in 18 games this season and are 2-14-4 in those contests.
