Ray, Tim and Cleon...

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins

Just want to say thank you to Ray Bourque, Tim Thomas and the folks from Tresca who treated those fans and friends lucky enough to attend "Dinner with Tim Thomas" last night as a fundraiser for the Travis Roy Foundation and North End Against Drugs (NEAD) to an awesome night.

There was a strong B’s contingent at the dinner!

Beyond Thomas and Bourque, the co-owner of Tresca (a terrific Italian eatery in the North End), former teammate Gord Kluzak and Bruins athletic trainer Don DelNegro were there to enjoy the wonderful ambiance and cuisine.

Cleon Daskalakis, also a former Bruin, was there helping to run the show, and he and his coworkers Erin, Lora and Kirsten from Celebrity Marketing made sure that everything was top notch -- including a poignant film about Travis Roy, his injury and the amazing things that he has done to raise awareness and help others since his accident.

And did I mention the food…delicious. It’s definitely Bish approved.

Fellow Garden employee Bob DeCristoforo, who was there representing NEAD, and the folks from Celebrity Marketing were great dinner companions. Kirsten has forgotten more than I’ll ever know about Boston University hockey, as she was the manager for the team for several years. Erin gave a history lesson about Charlestown, and Lora and I debated the relative merits of green vegetables.

The table also learned valuable lessons about locking doors, napkin usage and proper picture taking etiquette (you had to be there), and I was finally able to tell Mr. Daskalakis how much I ’admired’ the mustache he wore when he played for the Black & Gold in the mid 80’s (shown above).

Cleon trivia: A former Boston University Terrier, Daskalakis was the ECAC 1980’s Goalie of the Decade.

By the way, Travis is about to embark on a very ambitious campaign to raise $1.1 million to assuage the cost of help for spinal chord patients. Please, please, please click here for more information about Roy’s campaign to help people and, if you are so able, please donate to this worthy cause.

Oh, and don’t miss the podcast I recorded with Ray. It will be part of an upcoming BruinsCast.

In any case, please excuse the lack of updates yesterday; with Our Boys on the road and no practice, I just didn’t have too many factoids to drop on you.

But I am off to the skate, so keep it here!
