My college hockey mole, Professor Pux, sent in a few fun facts about tonight’s match up in the second game of the Hockey East Semifinal:
Boston College won their last seven regular season Hockey East games (and nine of last ten league games) including a home-at-home sweep of the University of New Hampshire on the final weekend of the regular season. They ended up a single point short of UNH.
BC is HOT. With their sweep of Northeastern in the quarterfinals, BC has now won 8-of-8, 10-of-11 and 12 of 14.
The downside for BC is that the two losses in that span are against two of the teams remaining in the tourney (UMass at BC’s Conte Forum and BU in the TD Banknorth Garden in the Beanpot Tournament Final).
In the series versus Boston University, the road team has won all four games, including the Beanpot final when BC was in home whites and BU was in road colors. FYI: BU will be the road team in the semi on Friday.
Boston University dropped their last two in the regular season, which, had they won them, would have tied them with UNH and given them the top seed in the Tournament (thanks to a 1-0-2 HEA record v UNH).
BU is 11-3-4 away from home this season (including 2-0 at Garden during the Beanpot). FYI: Add two wins if you want to include the visitors’ locker room at Agganis used by BU for the final two "away" games vs, the University of Vermont during the Quarterfinals.
BU and BC have met in the last three (college hockey) tournament finals played in the Garden: Beanpot ’06, Hockey East ’06, Beanpot ’07. BU won all three.
By the way, the first game is knotted at 2-2 with less than six minutes to play.
