BOSTON – NESN, New England’s most watched sports network, will drop the puck on the 2007/08 season tomorrow night as the Bruins take on the Dallas Stars at 8:30 PM, the first of 73 Bruins broadcasts scheduled on NESN this season. NESN will once again lead the league by originating every Bruins game and every Bruins studio show in high definition (HD).
NESN’s coverage begins with W.B. Mason’s Bruins Face-Off Live at 8:00 PM hosted by newly named studio host Kathryn Tappen who will be joined by Mike Milbury and Barry Pederson from the NESN HD Television Center. After the game NESN will deliver a complete wrap-up on Granite City Electric’s Bruins Overtime Live, the network’s half-hour post-game show.
Color analyst Andy Brickley will team up with play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards to work all 73 NESN broadcasts along with Bruins reporter Rob Simpson returning for his third season on NESN. In addition to Milbury and Pederson, former Bruins Rick Middleton and Gord Kluzak will also return to serve as Bruins studio analysts on NESN this season.
NESN Adds a New Look and Interactivity
NESN will unveil a completely re-designed on-air look for this season’s Bruins game-day coverage with plans to feature increased interactivity with Bruins fans through text messaging and NESN.com. The new graphics package and animation elements will utilize both 2D and 3D design elements that are consistent with NESN’s Red Sox broadcast graphics, and include new elements such as a new score-line and shootout score-line specifically for Bruins season. In addition to the new look, NESN will begin encouraging fans to text their questions to NESN at 83733, and have them answered live by NESN analyst Andy Brickley during the game or by Bruins players and coaches during intermissions and post-game interviews.
Saturday Night is Bruins Night - The Buzz and Rubber Biscuit Return
Original NESN Entertainment delivers Bruins coverage at the start and end of every Saturday night. NESN brings back two popular Bruins shows from last year - The Buzz with Hazel Mae and Rubber Biscuit with Rob Simpson. The Buzz is a weekly fast-paced Top 10 countdown of all things Bruins that will air every Saturday night at 6:00 PM or just before NESN’s Bruins pre-game show beginning October 13th. Rubber Biscuit is an up-close and personal look at the Bruins players, coaches and fans every Saturday at 10:30 PM beginning in November.
“Bruins fans have a passionate relationship with their team,” said Joel Feld, NESN’s vice president of programming and executive producer. “With a consistent announce team, the addition of Kathryn and Mike, an enhanced look and the introduction of interactive features we are seeking even more ways for our fans to connect with the team.
NESN has been the home of the Boston Bruins since 1984 and is scheduled to televise 73 regular season Bruins games this season. Last season NESN became the first regional sports network in the NHL to televise every game in high definition (HD). This season NESN will add 5.1 surround sound for all home games. Bruins broadcasts on NESN earned the 3rd highest average household rating on a regional sports network of all NHL teams in the U.S. last season.
