by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins

BOSTON, MA -- The NHL announced Monday, March 24, that Bruins forward Jarome Iginla has been named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week for the week ending March 23. Detroit's Gustav Nyquist and New York's Henrik Lundqvist were named first and second stars of the week, respectively.

Iginla registered five goals last week, including a pair of two-goal games against the Minnesota Wild on March 17 and the Phoenix Coyotes on March 22.  The 36-year-old's goal against the Devils in New Jersey on March 18 proved to be the game-winner.

Iginla reached two milestones last week, playing in his 1,300th NHL game on March 17 against the Wild, while also passing John Bucyk on the NHL's all-time goals list with two strikes against the Colorado Avalanche on March 21. The winger now sits two goals shy for 24th the all-time goals list behind Guy Lafleur, who has 560.

In the month of March, Iginla has tallied 11 goals, including three two-goal games (3/13 vs. PHX, 3/15 vs. CAR, 3/22 at PHX) and four game-winning goals (3/4 at FLA, 3/13 vs. PHX, 3/15 vs. CAR, 3/18 vs. NJD) during the B’s current 12-game win streak.  Iginla has also chipped in three assists, totaling 14 points in March with four games to go to complete the month.

The 6'1'', 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta is first on the Bruins in goals (28), second in points (58) and third in assists (30).
