Chara, Lucic Expect Intensity

by Abigail Seaver / Boston Bruins -- Tonight the Boston Bruins are preparing for their second exhibition game of the preseason and will take on the Florida Panthers in Rochester, NY.

This morning B's captain Zdeno Chara took the time to explain the intensity that players should always -- even during the preseason --bring to the ice.

"It’s not an NHL rink, but the purpose the whole thing is to play a good solid game," Chara said. "It’s going to be a lot different than what we are used to."

"But that’s preseason, and we all have to make some adjustments.

"Most importantly, [it's important] that we play hard and play good."

Preseason is a time for the rookies to learn the ropes from the veterans while vying for spots on the NHL or AHL rosters.

Sometimes, that can create a certain amount of desperation.

"That’s pretty common and pretty normal [since] everyone is fighting for jobs," said Chara. "We have the same situation in our locker room. [Players are] fighting for jobs, and I’m sure you’re going to see a desperation from Florida tonight as well."

B's forward Milan Lucic agreed with his captain and added that the extra pressure from rookies is good for guys who might be getting comfortable in their spots.

"For [the rookies], it’s them trying to make a statement for themselves and trying to earn a job," said Lucic. "So I know that they are going to play hard.

"I mean, for guys like me, it definitely pushes us to play harder."

With just a few hours left before the game, Chara had a few last words of advise for all his teammates playing.

"Be very much aware of what if going on on the ice for every shift for the whole sixty minutes because if you’re not, then that’s actually what is going to hurt you."
