BOSTON, MA – The Boston Bruins Foundation is teaming up with Massachusetts Hockey to support the Mike Cheever’s Grow Hockey Grant. The Bruins Foundation will present a donation of $253,252 during the 2nd intermission of the Bruins vs. Hurricanes game on Thursday, March 10. The funds we raised through the Bruins “Invest in Youth Hockey” Massachusetts license plate sales during 2015. The purpose of the Mike Cheever's Grow Hockey Grant is to seek, fund, and share innovative methods for growing ice hockey participation in local organizations, Girls/Women and Disabled Hockey Programs within Massachusetts. Mass Hockey has named this grant program after Mike Cheever because it is aimed at achieving what Cheever dedicated his life to: giving more kids the opportunity to play the game.
The recipients of this year’s grant include Amherst Youth Hockey, Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires, Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham and Wakefield, Charlestown Youth Hockey, Cape Cod Canal Youth Hockey, Falmouth Youth Hockey, North Central Youth Hockey, Starhawks Youth Hockey, Triboro Youth Hockey and Massachusetts Hockey. Representatives from each organization receiving grant funds will be at the Bruins vs. Hurricanes game and available for interviews, please contact Erika Wentzell (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more details.
In the 13 years that the Bruins “Invest in Youth Hockey” plates have been on the road, the program has raised over $1.75 million for grassroots youth hockey efforts throughout the state.
