by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD

FEBRUARY 4 - FEBRUARY 11

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
PAILLE SUSPENDED FOUR GAMES: Daniel Paille has been suspended for four games and will forfeit $23,118.28 as a result of delivering an illegal check to the head of Dallas Stars forward Raymond Sawada on Thursday, the National Hockey League announced Friday.

“Paille delivered a lateral hit where the principal point of contact was his opponent’s head,” said Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy. “Additionally, the injury suffered by the Dallas player was a factor in this decision.”

Paille will miss the Bruins next four games -- Feb. 5 vs. San Jose, Feb. 9 vs. Montreal, Feb. 11 vs. Detroit and Feb. 13 at Detroit. He is eligible to return Feb. 15 vs. Toronto.

HAMILL RECALLED: Peter Chiarelli announced Thursday night that the club has recalled forward Zach Hamill from the Providence Bruins (American Hockey League). This season, he leads the P-Bruins in assists with 25, and is second on the team in scoring with 3-25=28 totals in 44 games. Hamill has previously been called up to Boston once during the regular season, getting an assist in his first and only NHL appearance to date in a 4-3 shootout win over the Washington Capitals on April 11, 2010.

FIGHT CLUB: On Thursday night, Shawn Thornton registered his team-high 12th fighting major of the year in the B’s 6-3 win over the Dallas Stars, and teammate Adam McQuaid registered his 9th fight of the season. The Bruins improved to 8-3-1 when Thornton gets in a fight, 6-1-2 when McQuaid gets in a fight, and 19-8-4 when any Bruin fights. Thornton also scored a goal on Thursday night, which marked the fourth time this season he registered a goal and a fighting major in the same game. The only other Bruin to accomplish this feat this season was Milan Lucic on October 19th against the Washington Capitals, who had a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, assist and a fight in that game.

Here is the breakdown of fighting majors this season:
Thornton (12)
McQuaid (9)
Campbell (7)
Ference (3)
Horton (3)
Lucic (3)
Stuart (3)
Boychuk, Chara, Krejci, Paille, Recchi, Savard, Seidenberg, and
Hunwick all have 1.

48 total

56 AND COUNTING… After Thursday’s capacity crowd at the Garden, the Bruins have now sold out 56 straight games (regular season and postseason, does not include Winter Classic at Fenway or 2010 Premiere Game in Prague). The Bruins sold out every regular and postseason game during the 2010 calendar year, the first time the organization has done so since the 1972 calendar year.

2ND NEELY SK8 UNDERWAY AT THE FROG POND: President Cam Neely along with Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic visited  participants skating in the Neely Sk8 event at the Frog Pond in Boston Common on Friday. Throughout the month of February, the Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care is hosting the second annual "Neely SK8 Challenge" skate-a-thon presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance. The Neely SK8 Challenge helps raise funds for children and their families who are battling cancer.

Bruins fans of all ages can register to skate at one of the five FMC participating rinks.  Each skate date will be a private Neely SK8 event. Skaters can create a personalized fundraising page for family and friends to make a pledge and follow participants’ fundraising progress by visiting www.neelysk8.com. Last year, skaters raised more than $130,000.

THEY SAID IT… Claude Julien in his postgame press conference on Thursday night:
“Usually against Dallas, it’s always interesting here in this building and we always have interesting games. When we got their starting lineup and their top two lines weren’t on, we knew they wanted to obviously start with a physical edge to their game and we were ready for that.”

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK: WEEI’s DJ Bean following Thursday’s game against Dallas: @DJBean “Gregory Campbell oozes class. Wouldn't say a word about pre-meditated Ott fight, laughed when asked why he was at RW on the opening faceoff”

BRUINS FIRST GOAL POOL ON TWITTER: Congrats to the following followers of @NHLBruins who correctly guessed Milan Lucic as the Bruins first goal scorer during the Bruins/Stars game on Thursday: @TheRealJeffCote, @DBoSOX, @teala, @DavidBird1717, @BrittH5987, @theDbaker, @shwend, @C_Turton, @briantocci, @Den15, @jryandunn, @mariesanchez

Lucic scored the first goal at :35 of the first period on Thursday.

Also noteworthy is that @jryandunn, @teala and @theDbaker have gotten the last two “first goals” right, as they all had Brad Marchand during the B’s/Panthers game last Wednesday. Let’s see if they can make it three-in-a-row during Saturday’s home game against San Jose!

The Bruins first goal pool takes place on Twitter just before the puck drop every Bruins home game.

BRUINS PROSPECT REPORT: The Bruins Communications Staff has created the Boston Bruins Prospect Report, which will be emailed out every two weeks. The Report will contain updated statistical information, news and notes on all players in the Bruins system, as well as a “Prospect Spotlight” section that will highlight two players in a feature article format. The latest report was sent on January 31 and featured P-Bruins goaltender Matt Dalton and BC defenseman Tommy Cross.
