Bruins Received "Exemplary Employer Award"

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Bruins were presented with the “Exemplary Employer Award” at UMass Medical School’s “Work Without Limits” conference on Tuesday, October 27. The Bruins received the award for their leadership in hiring individuals with disabilities and advancing workplace diversity.

The Boston Bruins were chosen for the award through their participation in the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress’ new public awareness campaign, “Your Next Star”. Bob Sweeney, executive director of the Boston Bruins Foundation, and John Dunleavy, an employee of the Boston Bruins and the TD Garden who has Down syndrome, appeared in a Your Next Star video featuring individuals with Down syndrome and their employers. Sweeney accepted the “Exemplary Employer Award” on behalf of the Bruins and Dunleavy accepted the Work Without Limits’ “Exemplary Employee Award”. Work Without Limits is a statewide network of employers and partners in the Disability, Health and Employment Policy unit within UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division. Work Without Limits is working toward a goal of making Massachusetts the first state in the nation to have an employment rate for individuals with disabilities that is equal to that of people without disabilities.
