Bruins NHL Draft Lottery Scenarios

by Eric Russo / Boston Bruins

BostonBruins.com – The 2016 NHL Draft Lottery will be held Saturday evening in Toronto (8 p.m., NBC). The Bruins are one of 14 teams eligible to receive the No. 1 overall pick. This year, the second and third picks will also be determined through drawings.

Because the Bruins finished with the most points among non-playoff teams, they have the lowest chance of securing the No. 1 pick.

Teams                                       Odds at No. 1 Pick

Toronto Maple Leafs                  20.0%

Edmonton Oilers                        13.5%

Vancouver Canucks                   11.5%

Columbus Blue Jackets              9.5%

Calgary Flames                          8.5%

Winnipeg Jets                             7.5%

Arizona Coyotes                         6.5%

Buffalo Sabres                            6.0%

Montreal Canadiens                   5.0%

Colorado Avalanche                   3.5%

New Jersey Devils                     3.0%

Ottawa Senators                        2.5%

Carolina Hurricanes                   2.0%

Boston Bruins                          1.0% (3.4% chance at a top-3 pick)

  • If the Bruins do not draw the first pick, the best-case scenario is if Toronto receives the No. 1 selection. Boston would then have a 1.25% chance at the second overall pick. Overall, Boston has a 1.1% chance at the No. 2 pick.
  • If the Bruins do not draw the second pick, the best-case scenario is if Edmonton receives the No. 2 selection. Boston would then have a 1.5% chance at the third overall pick. Overall, Boston has a 1.3% chance at the No. 3 pick.
  • The 11 teams that do not draw one of the first three picks will be assigned draft positions 4 through 14 in inverse order of regular-season points. As a result, if Boston does not receive one of the first three picks, it will have the No. 14 selection in this year’s NHL Draft.
