BOSTON, MA – On Monday, December 10, members of the Boston Bruins staff, including President Cam Neely, Assistant General Manager Don Sweeney, Head Coach Claude Julien and Bruins Hall of Famer John “Chief” Bucyk, along with various NESN and media personalities, will participate in the Bruins annual Holiday Toy Shopping event presented by AT&T at Target in Woburn, MA. The event is closed to the public.
The Boston Bruins Foundation, Delaware North Companies and Garden Neighborhood Charities will fund $22,500 worth of toys, with each organization donating $7,500. The toys will be delivered to hospitals around Boston and given as gifts to children who are unable to celebrate the holidays at home. Last year, the Bruins donated an estimated total of more than $23,000 worth of toys. Bruins Hall of Famer Ray Bourque started the holiday toy shopping and delivery tradition when he was captain, and the event has continued through the years.
The hospitals receiving this year’s toy donations include Boston Children's Hospital, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, Shriners Hospital for Children, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Hallmark Health System Hospitals, Franciscan Hospital for Children and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.
The toy delivery will take place on Wednesday, December 19, with further details to be announced on a later date. Storage and transportation of the toys will be provided by Gentle Giant.
NESN’s Naoko Funayama, Dale Arnold and Adam Pellerin, along with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Bob Beers and NHL Network’s Kathryn Tappen, are also expected to attend the event.
