Anyone who’s followed along this season knows that this space has a soft spot for young hockey players.
And last night the B’s gave out the John Carlton Memorial Award...
The John Carlton Memorial Award, recognizing outstanding male and female student-athletes in Eastern Massachusetts high school or junior hockey, was given to Kevin McNamara of Belmont Hill School, and Marissa Gentile of Tabor Academy. The award is named in honor of the late Bruins administrator and scout, John Carlton, who passed away in 1982.
McNamara, a defenseman, recorded 14-32-46 totals this season while serving as captain of the Belmont Hill team. He was selected for ISL MVP, All-ISL and First Team All-New England honors, and was a member of USA Hockey’s under-17 team. The winner of the silver medal at the Five Nationals Tournament in Germany in 2004, McNamara, who resides in Chestnut Hill, is on the honor roll and plans to attend Colgate University.
Gentile is also the captain of her team at Tabor Academy, posting 19-28-47 totals this season as a center. She was selected as the Varsity Most Valuable Player of Tabor Hockey and also serves as the captain of her high school crew team. Gentile is a native of Groton, Massachusetts and is an honor roll student who plans on attending Union College.
