Boston Bruins Week Ahead 2/28 - 3/6

#1 and #2 IN THE EAST CLASH ON SATURDAY: The Bruins will host the NHL's leading goalscorer Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Saturday, February 28 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Boston and Washington are ranked first and second in the Eastern Conference respectively, with the Bruins leading the way with 92 points and the Caps in second with 83 points. Both teams have played 62 games. The Bruins are 1-2 against Washington this season with a 3-2 overtime win on 1/27, a 1-3 loss in DC on 12/10 and a 1-2 loss in DC on 1/17.


HOMESTAND ROLLS ON:
Saturday’s game against Washington is game number three of a six-game homestand for the Bruins. Through the first two games, the Black and Gold are 2-0 and have outscored their opponents 12-1. The homestand continues next week with home tilts against Philadelphia (3/3), Phoenix (3/5) and Chicago (3/7).

TRADE DEADLINE LOOMS:
Wednesday, March 4 is the NHL's trade deadline. The Bruins Communications Department will issue a media advisory early next week containing relevant schedule information and media availability for March 4.

AXELSSON’S MONTH-LONG PAJAMA DRIVE ENDS SATURDAY:
P.J.'s Pajama Drive concludes on Saturday with an in-game pajama collection at the TD Banknorth Garden during the Bruins/Capitals contest. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unused pajamas to the game on Saturday to contribute to the cause. Axelsson and his wife, Siw, started P.J.'s Pajama Drive during the 2007-08 season as a way of giving back to their community. The pajamas are donated to Cradles to Crayons, a local charitable organization that assists homeless and in-need children.

"RINKSIDE CHATS" RETURN: BostonBruins.com's online interactive feature "Rinkside Chats," presented by Covidien, have returned with Blake Wheeler and David Krejci participating in the first two chats of the season. The Rinkside Chats will run every other Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. ET for the remainder of the season on BostonBruins.com. The next guest is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 with the guest to be determined at a later date.

"BRU FEST" DATES SET:
On Thursday, March 19 and Tuesday, March 31 the Boston Bruins will hold their third and fourth Bru Fest events of the 2008-09 season sponsored by Boston's own Samuel Adams brewery.

The outdoor festivities will start at 5:00 p.m. and conclude at 7:00 p.m. (with last call at 6:45 p.m.) in the West Plaza outside of the TD Banknorth Garden. Tickets to Bru Fest can be purchased online at bostonbruins.com and cost $45.00. The $45.00 covers admission to the Bru Fest party, a voucher for one free beer or free soda, discounted concessions and a ticket to that evening’s Bruins home game. The B’s take on the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, March 19, at 7:00 p.m. ET and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE…
The Bruins have outscored their opponents by a 12-1 margin in the first two games of their current six-game homestand. That upped their record in games decided by three-or-more goals to an NHL-best 15-1, and they are a perfect 9-0 in games decided by four-or-more goals.

Their .938 win percentage in three-or-more-goal decisions bests Detroit's mark of .812 (13-3), San Jose's .764 (13-4) and Chicago's .727 (16-6). The only other teams unbeaten in four-or-more goal decisions are Detroit at 7-0 and Minnesota at 6-0.
