by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD

January 16 – January 22

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS:
BRUINS TO ASSIST IN HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS: In response to the recent tragedy in Haiti, the Boston Bruins will hold a special collection during Monday’s home game against the Senators to help raise money to support the Haiti earthquake relief effort. To make a greater impact on the relief efforts, the Jacobs family, Boston Bruins and TD Garden will match all the funds collected in-game. American Red Cross volunteers will be stationed throughout the TD Garden for all Bruins fans able to donate. The Boston Bruins will also hold a moment of silence prior to the start of the game to honor those affected by the recent earthquake.

WEST COAST ROAD TRIP WRAPS UP: The Bruins conclude their three game California road trip on Saturday afternoon with a visit to the Los Angeles Kings at 4:00 p.m. ET (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub). The Black & Gold are 1-1-0 through the first two games after losing to the Ducks on Wednesday but rebounding Thursday against San Jose.  Ottawa and Columbus come to town in the upcoming week, as the Sens will visit Monday for a 1:00 p.m. tilt and the Jackets will be in town for a Thursday night game at 7:00 p.m.

KIDS’ DAY, PJ DRIVE TO TAKE PLACE MONDAY DURING B’S/SENS MATINEE: To help children in need throughout Massachusetts, on Monday, January 18, the Boston Bruins and BJ’s Wholesale Club are hosting the Third Annual PJ Drive to benefit Cradles to Crayons during "Kids Day" at the TD Garden, which will take place at the Bruins/Senators game beginning at 1:00 p.m. Every child and Bruins fan that donates a new, unused pair of pajamas to the PJ Drive will receive a Bruins night-light thanks to TD Insurance. In addition, those Bruins fans choosing to participate in the PJ Drive will receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win Boston Bruins team autographed memorabilia.

To start the "Kids Day" festivities, 11-year-old Bruins fan Kieran Jacobs will perform both the Canadian and American National anthems. Throughout the afternoon kids and their families can visit the Kids Zone at Section seven on level four of the concourse to pick up their balloon animals and to have their faces painted.

THURSDAY IS “HEART HEALTH” NIGHT: On Thursday, January 21, the Bruins will be hosting Heart Health Night during the Bruins/Blue Jackets game at the TD Garden.  During the game fans will learn facts about Heart Health, receive special giveaways, and be able to receive a heart health screening.  Patients with a connection to the American Heart Association will participate in a variety of fan experiences including zamboni rides, bench assistants, and high-five line.

THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE:
During Thursday night’s game against the Sharks, the Bruins featured a lineup that was quite different than the one that suited up in the team’s season opener against Washington on October 1. Of Thursday night’s 18 skaters, only 12 appeared in the game against the Caps, while only one of Thursday night’s centers (Steve Begin) played center in the home opener.

THEY SAID IT…
Zdeno Chara, after Thursday’s shootout win at San Jose…
“It was a huge statement game for us, especially with so many challenges facing us tonight. Obviously our top three centermen are missing out of the lineup. It was one of those games where we totally sacrificed everything ... People can never count us out. We always bring our best when we face challenges and obviously it’s a big win.”
