Boston Bruins Sign Tommy Cross and Tyler Randell to One-Year, Two-Way Contracts

BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, June 18, that the club has signed defenseman Tommy Cross and forward Tyler Randell to one-year, two-way contracts worth a cap figure of $600,000 at the NHL level.

Cross ranked second on the Providence Bruins in penalty minutes in the 2014-15 season with 85 and recorded four goals and 18 assists in 54 regular season games. Since the 2011-12 season, the 25-year-old, Simsbury, CT native has played in 153 games for Providence and notched eight goals and 32 assists for 40 points in that span.

Cross completed four seasons at Boston College where he played in 134 games, and scored 17 goals, tallied 43 assists and 171 penalty minutes. Cross won the NCAA National Championship with BC in 2010 and 2012 and was named Assistant Captain his junior season and then Captain his senior season with the Eagles.

The 6’3’’, 210-pound forward was drafted by Boston in the second round (35th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Randell led the 2014-15 Providence Bruins in penalty minutes with 120 and also tallied career highs in goals (11) and assists (nine) in 74 regular season games. The 24-year-old Scarborough, ONT native has played in 170 career regular season games for Providence and notched 17 goals, 16 assists and 314 penalty minutes in that span. He has also competed in 13 playoffs games for Providence and recorded one goal with 10 penalty minutes.

From 2007 to 2012 Randell played five seasons in the Ontario hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers and Belleville Bulls. Randell totaled 67 goals, 44 assists and 392 penalty minutes in 267 regular season OHL games as well as eight goals and five assists in 52 playoff games.

The 6’1’’, 197-pound forward was drafted by Boston in the sixth round (176th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
