Boston, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Tuukka Rask from the Providence Bruins (AHL) on an emergency basis for Manny Fernandez.

Rask has recorded a 7-1 record with a 1.98 goals-against average through eight starts this season in Providence.  He was recently recalled by Boston for a stint that spanned from November 5 to November 11 and was on the Bruins’ bench for three contests, but did not see any game action.

The 20-year-old Savonlinna, Finland native earned top goalie honors at the 2006 World Junior Classic for Team Finland after posting a 2.11 GAA and .940 save percentage.  Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs with the 21st overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Rask was acquired by the Bruins on June 24, 2006 in exchange for goaltender Andrew Raycroft.  2007 is Rask’s first year as a professional in the U.S., as he spent the last three with Ilves Tampere of the Finnish league.

The 8-6-2 Bruins face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET.  The Bruins hold a 5-2-1 record at the Garden this season.
