The Ol' Nine of Clubs

by Chris Pinkert / St. Louis Blues

For Jake Bryson, a 16-year-old high school senior playing in his first U.S. Junior Amateur Championship this week, who better to bring along as a caddie than his good ol’ uncle Darren Pang?

Pang, the Blues’ color analyst for FOX Sports Midwest, knows a thing or two about golf. He gets out to the course whenever his schedule allows it and is a regular at Meadowbrook Country Club in Ballwin.

“I was really lucky to have him on the greens and to keep me in good spirits,” Bryson told David Shefter of the United States Golf Association. “We had a great time. I am very privileged.”

The tournament is being held at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee. Bryson missed the cut but still enjoyed the quality time with his uncle.

“It was a great experience for him to be in front of this many people,” Pang told USGA.com. “I think he learned a lot about his swing and putting on fast greens.”

As for his experience working as a caddie?

“Now I really appreciate and understand how hard that is,” Pang said. “It’s not that easy, especially in the heat like this. It’s hard to keep with the pace.”
