Johnson, Perron Make Case for the Calder

by Staff Writer / St. Louis Blues
After a holiday season hiatus, Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane has topped the first Future Considerations' Calder Chase of 2008.

Kane, who leads all rookies in scoring with 39 points in 40 games, has led the Chase since taking over from Edmonton Oilers forward Andrew Cogliano on October 21st.

On Kane's heels all season has been teammate Jonathan Toews. The duo currently sit one-two in scoring, though the combination of a knee sprain to Toews and the emergence of Washington Capitals centre Nicklas Backstrom threatens that claim.

Returning to the list in the New Year is Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price. Price, who has played in 19 of 41 games for Montreal this season, leads all rookie goaltenders with a .907 save percentage. The former Tri City Americans netminder joins St. Louis Blues defenseman Erik Johnson as the only two newcomers to the Chase.

Johnson is joined by teammate David Perron, while Martin Hanzal and Peter Mueller of the Phoenix Coyotes mark the third pair of teammates on the Chase.
