A new season is just around the corner.
And that means it's about time for you to consider who to draft on your Fantasy Hockey Team.
A recent article on NHL.com listed the top 15 fantasy assets in terms of points and penalty minutes, and Blues captain David Backes received high praise in that list.
Here's what NHL.com had to say about Backes' fantasy relevance:
"Goaltending may have been the fabric of the Blues' resurgence last season, but Backes' well-rounded play was just as responsible. Backes isn't a goal-scoring phenom, but his 54 points, 101 PIM and 234 shots made him a complete fantasy package. As long as his linemates (T.J. Oshie, David Perron) stay healthy, he's in great position to match his previous career-high in points (62 in '10-11) while hitting the century mark again in PIM."
According to Pete Jensen of NHL.com, while it's critical to have elite point production threats like Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin or Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos, most down-to-the-wire fantasy matchups are decided by other miscellaneous categories such as shots on goal, plus-minus and penalty minutes.
For his career, Backes has played in 446 games, posting 272 points, 601 penalty minutes and a plus-35 rating.
Other players making the list include Pittsburgh's James Neal, Philadelphia's Scott Hartnell, Anaheim's Corey Perry and Boston's Zdeno Chara.
