Blues to Hold Power Play for United Way
by Staff Writer / St. Louis BluesWhen the St. Louis Blues play host to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, Oct. 24, the power play will be more important than ever – as the Blues create “Power Play for the United Way,” a game televised on Fox Sports Midwest, produced and donated by the Blues to the United Way of Greater St. Louis in an effort to help the organization reach its annual $65.5 million fundraising goal.
“The Blues are dedicating this entire game’s broadcast on Fox Sports Midwest to the United Way to help stimulate fundraising and tell the story of this organization’s impact on the St. Louis community,” said Peter McLoughlin, CEO of St. Louis Blues Enterprises. “The telecast will feature traditional play-by-play and game coverage, but the breaks will be dedicated to the United Way as a public service announcement and promotional vehicle.”

In addition to the United Way-themed television broadcast, the Blues will encourage fans in attendance at “Power Play for the United Way” to make their own contributions to the United Way through a silent auction – featuring unique team memorabilia and once-in-a-lifetime Blues fan experiences like a post-game meet-and-greet with a Blues player – and the sale of a commemorative Blues/United Way cup at concession stands (with $1 of every cup sale going to the United Way). Before the puck drops, the Blues will present a check to the United Way of Greater St. Louis, to be received by Doug Albrecht, co-chairman of the 2008 United Way campaign and former chairman, president, and CEO of Centric Group.
“Year after year, the Blues and their fans have displayed the utmost commitment to St. Louis through their support of the United Way,” said Albrecht. “We are eternally grateful for their help in reaching our annual goal, while also raising awareness for the United Way and our agencies.”
