Blues Sign Prospect Cade Fairchild

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Friday the club has signed 2007 draft choice Cade Fairchild.

Fairchild, 22, has spent the past four seasons at the University of Minnesota where he made 149 appearances for the Golden Gophers, collecting 21 goals and 72 assists for 93 points and 122 penalty minutes. In each of his last three seasons, he led team defenseman in points and also ranked among the top four scorers on the club.

Prior to his collegiate career, the 5’11”, 190-pound defenseman spent two years with the United States National Team Developmental Program.

Fairchild represented the United States at the 2009 World Junior Championships, playing in six games and serving six penalty minutes.

Fairchild will undergo shoulder surgery and is expected to be ready for the 2011-12 season.

A native of Duluth, Minnesota, he was originally drafted by the Blues in the fourth round, 96th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
