ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed forwards Pat Cannone, John McCarthy and Sebastian Wannstrom to one-year, two-way contracts.
Cannone, 27, appeared in 59 games for the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Chicago Wolves last season, ranking fourth on the club with 34 points (16 goals and 18 assists). In addition, the 5-foot-11, 193-pound forward posted two assists in nine postseason games. The Miami University (Ohio) alum has spent the past four seasons in the AHL, including stints with Chicago and Binghamton, accumulating 104 points (46 goals, 58 assists) and 91 penalty minutes in 211 career regular season games.
Cannone is a native of Bayport, New York.
McCarthy, 27, split last season between San Jose and their AHL affiliate, Worcester. With San Jose, the 6-foot, 203-pound forward posted two points (one goal, one assist) in 36 regular season games, while with Worcester he produced seven points (three goals, four assists) in 13 regular season games.
Overall, the former Boston University captain (2008-09) has totaled six points (three goals, three assists) in 87 career NHL regular season games, while his AHL career has yielded 133 points (54 goals, 79 assists) in 242 regular season appearances.
In addition, he has recorded five points (two goals, three assists) in 11 career AHL postseason games. The Boston, Massachusetts native was originally drafted by San Jose in the seventh round, 202nd overall, of the 2006 Entry Draft.
Wannstrom, 23, split last season between the Chicago Wolves and the Blues’ East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate, Kalamazoo Wings. With Chicago, the 6’-foot2, 198-pound forward tallied 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 37 regular season games, while adding three points (one goal, two assists) in six postseason appearances.
In just four games with Kalamazoo, Wannstrom posted five points (three goals, two assists). For his career, the Gavle, Sweden native has spent the majority of the past two seasons with the Blues’ AHL and ECHL affiliates, while he has also spent parts of four seasons in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Brynas (2009-13).
Overall, Wannstrom has accumulated 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 53 AHL regular season games, 12 points (nine goals, three assists) in 18 ECHL games and 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in 115 SHL games. In addition, he represented Sweden at the 2011 World Juniors, tying for second on the club with five points (two goals, three assists) in six tournament games. Wannstrom was originally drafted by the Blues in the second round, 44th overall, of the 2010 Entry Draft.
