A Unique Experience

by Chris Pinkert / St. Louis Blues
Usually, Patrik Berglund would be battling to find open space on the ice, looking for an opportunity to set up a teammate for a goal or maybe even score one himself.

But Tuesday, it was every man for himself as Berglund battled Kevin Shattenkirk and a group of Blues Season Ticket Holders in a competitive game of arcade-style horse racing during the annual Season Ticket Holder Party at Dave & Buster’s in Earth City.

The game, called D&B Downs, required players to roll a ball around various obstacles, similar to skeeball. The harder the shot to make, the faster your horse would travel. Play continued until someone successfully reached the finish line with their horse.

Berglund’s horse started off strong, winning most of the early games, but Shattenkirk made a late comeback to even the score.

Earlier in the same game, Alex Pietrangelo and Chris Stewart duked it out, but the score wasn't so even.

“I didn’t do very well, I lost to Stewie about six times, and I think a 4-year old beat me,” Pietrangelo said. “It wasn’t too good, but it was all in good fun.”

Mike Causey, a Blues Season Ticket Holder for two years, also struggled to beat Stewart in the game.

“It wasn’t fair, but it is what it is, and that’s a good time,” he said. “That’s all that matters.”

The real winners on Tuesday were the fans that attended the team’s annual Season Ticket Holder Party at Dave & Buster’s. Blues players spent several hours meeting with them and challenging them to games like D&B Downs, pop-a-shot basketball, skeeball, NASCAR racing, golf simulations and more.

Others, like David Backes, Brian Elliott and Kris Russell, posed for photos with fans.

“Our season tickets holders are a huge part of our support at home, and we’ve had a lot of success there, so it’s great to put some faces to the voices that are supporting us,” Backes said. “They give a lot to us. To get a couple pictures with them and show them our appreciation is a huge thing.”

Blues Season Tickets come with plenty of benefits, but events like Tuesday’s are just an added perk.

"Our fans truly enjoy this extremely unique event, which is exclusively for our most dedicated and committed fans - our Season Ticket Holders,” said Todd Lambert, the Blues’ Sr. Vice President of Sales. “The event provides a tremendous enhancement to the value Season Ticket Holders receive with their investment.”

Added Pietrangelo, “(Our Season Ticket Holders) are important. They certainly help the crowds every night, they’re certainly enthusiastic about our team. To be able to be support them, it’s a lot of fun for us.

“The fans here in St. Louis are so supportive and it’s easy for us to give back.”
