Yahoo!'s top right wings: Cam Atkinson makes the list

by BlueJackets.com Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Cam Atkinson
's job is to score goals, and he's pretty good at it.

Just look at the last three-plus seasons of his pro career: 22 goals in 2014-15, 21 in 2013-14 (including three points in six playoff games), nine goals in 35 games during the lockout-shortened season (a 20-goal pace)...you get the point.

In addition, he was an AHL All-Star and the league's top goal scorer with 29 goals in 51 games (!) in 2011-12. Not surprisingly, that earned him a call-up to the Blue Jackets and he scored his first career hat trick late in that season.

Atkinson has become a fixture in the Blue Jackets' top six and on the power play, and hasn't been shy to shoot the puck, either.

Consistent 20-goal scorers don't grow on trees, and the Blue Jackets did well to get one in the sixth round (157th overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft -- and apparently, the national hockey media agrees.

Yahoo! Sports has put together lists of the top players in the NHL broken down by position. First up, we take a look at their list of the best right wingers in the league. Atkinson, still only 26 years old, checks in at No. 19.

Here's the breakdown of Atkinson's ranking:

"19. Cam Atkinson, Columbus: The Blue Jackets’ wingers are a faceless horde of good hockey players."

There's solid company on the list, too; check out Yahoo!'s complete rundown of the top 25 right wings in the NHL by clicking HERE.
