What is going on in the first round of the Playoffs?

A brief on the West!

The pest of the west is Steve Ott and he is doing a great job in getting under the skin of all the Ducks!! The Stars led by Turco, are handing the defending champs all they can handle in their series up 3-1… when it is over for the Ducks, look for more conversations with Brain Burke and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Also look for Hiller to take the place of J-S Giguere in the net in game 5.

The Preds are playing the Wings hard, but goaltending has been the difference. Ellis has played very well for Nashville. Hasek who is classified as #1A has been removed for the Osgood, the #1B of the Wings… honestly I still feel Osgood has been the better of the two all year. We will see his dominance in the final best of 3 series. There is a big loss for Nashville in game 5 with Arnott and Legwand out with sickness and a bad ankle respectfully. One big key in the series is that .Nashville has never won a road playoff game in their history.

SJ is starting to get solid play from the true leaders of the team in Thornton and Marleau. It comes at a time when the best have to be the best… and it was good to see Evgeny Nabakov step up and inform his team in a closed door meeting "to get with it."

Minnesota and Colorado has been a fun series to watch…but where has Gaborik been as of late? No playoff goals as of yet, and they need him!

A brief on the east!

Pittsburgh sweeps the Senators 4-0 and that really surprises a lot of us in the game. Say good bye to Ray Emery and possibly Spezza… for Luongo? ... interesting but how could you get rid of one of the best tenders in the game? It all boils down to Ottawa not being as consistent as the Pens down the stretch.

Rangers-NJ… Marty Brodeur has not been sharp and the Rangers played their hearts out every night. The play of Brandon Dubinsky has really been impressive with his speed, grit and ability to make plays. It could be over tonight! Elias has played well as he has nine playoff goals against the NYR lifetime. The Devils are a team that will not quit.

Philly-Washington has been a battle of the open offense and the tight units of defense. At this time of year, it has been proven that defense can win games. A regular shift for players is around the: 45 second mark. When you see Ovechkin out for well over a minute in every game, solid play on the defensive end can minimize success. That is where Timonen and Hatcher have really done a solid job in the series….along with the help from the Upshall Carter Knuble line. Briere has shown playoff money is his forte with his $52 million contract. Right now he is playing very well offensively.

Boston-Montreal has been a series dominated by Montreal, until a gaff by Carey Price in game 5. Price has played well but allowed Boston a pulse for the series. The offense by Montreal has been impressive with the Kostitsyn brothers and the stellar play of Kovalev. Montreal up 3-2 in the series.
