Oct. 8 –
Acquired LW Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for future considerations and assigned him to the Syracuse Crunch (AHL).

The Blue Jackets have posted a 3-1-0 mark in their first four games for the second time in franchise history thanks to an opening night 2-1 win at home over Minnesota on Oct. 3 and a 2-1-0 road trip that included wins at Vancouver and Phoenix around a loss at San Jose. Columbus also started the 2003-04 campaign 3-1-0, including a season-opening loss at Atlanta and three-straight home wins over the NY Rangers, Vancouver and Chicago.

G Matieu Garon made 36 saves to lead Columbus to a 2-0 win at Phoenix on Oct. 10 and became the first goaltender in franchise history to record a shutout in his first start as a Blue Jacket. The previous mark for quickest shutout by a Blue Jackets goaltender was Dan LaCosta, who registered his first career shutout with 31 saves vs. Colorado on Feb. 10, 2009 in his second start (fourth game). G Steve Mason picked up his first shutout in his sixth game/start with 15 saves at Atlanta on Nov. 22, 2008. Last Saturday marked the 15th shutout of Garon's NHL career and his first since Feb. 4, 2008 when he made 24 saves against Calgary while playing for the Edmonton Oilers.

RW Rick Nash has tallied 2-5-7 in his last three games and is now just four goals shy of 200 in his NHL career (196-165-361 in 445 games)… . D Jan Hejda leads the club with a +7 plus/minus rating, which is tied for second in the NHL, and has been a “plus” player in all four games this season. Since joining the club prior to the 2007-08 campaign, Hejda is +50 in 167 games… LW Kristian Huselius is riding a three-game points streak (1-3-4)… D Mathieu Roy, who was added to the lineup on emergency recall on Oct. 3, has tallied 0-2-2 and is +3 in three games... The Blue Jackets enter the week ranked second in the NHL in penalty killing at 93.4 percent, having killed off 17-of-18 opponent power plays, including the last 15 in a row.

The Blue Jackets host the Los Angeles Kings on Hockey Fights Cancer Night in partnership with OhioHealth on Saturday, October 17. The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, OhioHealth and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 9 will welcome young cancer heroes and their families to this annual game, which is part of the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer month. Several pediatric cancer patients will participate in various in-game elements including a ceremonial puck drop, honorary stick kid and Zamboni rides and a post-game reception with some of their favorite Blue Jackets players. In addition, thanks to Relay Gear and F.O.P. Lodge 9, 100 percent of sales of the foundation's Hats For HEROES hats will be donated to the fight against pediatric cancer.

For the second year in a row, Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash is serving as the spokesman for Time Warner Cable's month-long adult literacy campaign. During the month of October, Time Warner Cable will donate $5 of every connection fee from its Road Runner high speed Internet and Digital Phone services to adult literacy programs throughout its Mid-Ohio Division service area.
