LW Jason Chimera (Injured Reserve, Dec. 18) is expected to miss at least one week… C Derick Brassard (dislocated shoulder, Dec. 18) will miss the rest of the season… D Rostislav Klesla (lower body injury; Injured Reserve, Jan. 5) is expected to miss two to four weeks… C Jiri Novotny (Injured Reserve, Jan. 6) will miss at least one week… G Pascal Leclaire (Injured Reserve, Jan. 8; Ankle surgery, Jan. 23) will miss 10 to 12 weeks… Man Games Lost to Injury: 168.

 

PLAYER NOTES

NASH CONTINUES TO SHINE IN ALL-STAR ACTION: All-Star LW Rick Nash tallied 1-2-3 for the Western Conference in a 12-11 shootout loss at the 2009 NHL All-Star Game played Sunday at the Bell Centre in Montreal. He has now tallied 6-4-10 in four All-Star Game appearances. After being shutout in his ASG debut in 2004, he collected 2-2-4 in the 2007 game held at American Airlines Center in Dallas. In the 2008 game held at Atlanta's Philips Arena, he collected the 15th hat trick in the game's history and set an ASG record for fastest goal at the start of the game when he scored just :12 into the contest. Nash currently leads the Blue Jackets in goals, assists and points with 19-24-43 in 43 games.

MALHOTRA RIDING CAREER-BEST SEVEN-GAME POINTS STREAK: C Manny Malhotra is currently riding the longest point-scoring streak of his 10-year NHL career as he has picked up a point in his last seven games. He has collected 2-7-9 during the streak, which is also the longest by a Blue Jacket this season. He has tallied 3-9-12 and is +4 his past 12 games to raise his season totals to 6-12-18 and +7 in 42 games. He is expected to play in his 600th career game vs. Detroit on Tuesday.

UMBERGER CLOSING IN ON CAREER HIGH IN GOALS: C R.J. Umberger has tallied 4-2-6 in his last seven games, including a two-goal effort at Calgary on Jan. 21, to raise his season totals to 15-11-26 in 47 games. He ranks second on the club in goals and third in points, while surpassing the 13 goals he scored in 74 games with Philadelphia in 2007-08 and closing on his 2006-07 total of 16-12-28 in 81 games with the Flyers. His career high for points is 13-37-50 set last year, while he scored a career-high 20 goals and added 18 assists for 38 points in 73 games as a Flyers rookie in 2005-06.

MISCELLANEOUS: C Jason Williams is riding a three-game point streak (2-2-4)... With a goal at Calgary on Jan. 21, rookie RW Jakub Voracek has points in back-to-back games and has 3-5-8 in his past 10 games to push his season totals to 7-16-23 and is +13 in 46 games… RW Jared Boll scored his second goal of the season Jan. 20 at Edmonton and has points in four of the past seven games (2-3-5) after being held without a point the previous 14 games… LW Fredrik Modin has a +9 plus/minus rating the past 25 games after being minus-10 the first 22 games of the season.

 


TEAM NOTES

WHERE THEY STAND:
Since being swept on a three-game California road trip from Dec. 4-7, the Blue Jackets have gone 11-7-2 overall and 8-4-1 in their last 13 outings. Columbus enters the week with a 22-20-5 record and 49 points, which puts them in a tie for ninth place in the Western Conference standings with Minnesota (49 points, 46 games). There is currently a three-way tie for sixth place that includes Edmonton (51 points, 46 games), Vancouver (51 points, 48 games) and Anaheim (51 points, 49 games).

HOME COOKING ON TAP FOR JACKETS: The Blue Jackets open the post All-Star break by playing their next four games at Nationwide Arena. The homestand is part of a stretch that has the club playing seven of its next eight games and 10-of-13 at home before a three-game Western Canadian road trip at Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver from Feb. 24-Mar. 1. Columbus is 13-7-1 at home this season, outscoring its opponents 58 to 53. The club has gone 8-2-0 at home since Nov. 29.

MISCELLANEOUS: Columbus is 7-2-1 vs. Eastern Conference opponents this season and had its seven-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss vs. New Jersey on Jan. 16… The Blue Jackets play their second of two sets of back-to-back home games this Friday (vs. Ottawa) and Saturday (vs. Dallas) and hope their results match the previous set when they beat Montreal (4-3 SO) on Nov. 7 and Calgary (3-1) on Nov. 8… The Blue Jackets' average attendance through 21 home games at Nationwide Arena this season is 14,533, which is an improvement of 668 per game through 21 games last season (13,865). The club has also averaged 16,647 over the past five home games.

Blue Jackets players and their wives/girlfriends along with pediatric cancer heroes from Nationwide Children's Hospital will be outfitted by Saks Fifth Avenue as they model the latest fashions in a charity style show at the Hilton Columbus/Polaris on Wednesday, January 28. Proceeds from the Black Tie. Blue Jackets. Style Show presented by Kelly BMW will benefit the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation's local Hats For Heroes program and related pediatric cancer research initiatives including Flashes of Hope. HOCKEY FEST SET FOR SUNDAY, FEB. 8: Blue Jackets players and their wives will host the Fourth Annual Hockey Fest presented by Univar, to benefit the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation on Sunday, February 8 from 12 to 7 p.m. at Nationwide Arena. Hockey Fest offers fans a unique opportunity to personally interact with their favorite Blue Jackets players and personalities in a casual setting. The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Central Ohio Toyota Dealers are teaming up for a special promotion in which prospective car customers that test drive a Toyota vehicle at participating dealerships will receive a voucher redeemable for a pair of tickets to an upcoming home game. The offer runs through the month of January. Vouchers for January and February game tickets are redeemable at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office while supplies last.
