Two Teams on the Rise Meet at Nationwide Tonight

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

October 17

Two young hockey teams that as coach Hitchcock says "mirror one another" hook up in the first of two meetings over the next 9 nights this evening at Nationwide arena. The Los Angeles Kings and the Blue Jackets are both off to solid starts and both teams have a number of talented young players. It will be an interesting tilt tonight with the Kings outstanding young defensemen Jack Johnson and Drew Doughty matched up against the Blue Jackets young guns up front including Rick Nash, Derick Brassard and Jake Voracek just to name a few. Nash, the Jackets' captain is off to a terrific start, is riding a four game multi-point streak into tonight's tilt, and is coming off one of his strongest efforts of the season on Tuesday in the the team's 2-1 win over Calgary.

Steve Mason gets the start in goal tonight. Nikita Filatov, although recovered from a slash in practice earlier in the week, will not dress tonight. Instead, Jarred Boll who had one of his strongest games in a long time will again patrol the right side on the fourth line.

Tonight's game is in "HD" and the telecast begins with "Blue Jackets Live" Ray Crawford kicking things off in place of Jeff Hogan at 6:30 on Fox Sports Ohio.
