TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- It was a very business-like morning skate for the Blue Jackets prospects this morning at Center Ice Arena. The only audible voice early on was that of Springfield Falcons coach Jared Bednar, who's leading the team during the NHL Prospects Tournament.
"Forwards, D...let's be ready to go here!"
"Snap the passes and let's move it quick!"
This was only the group's second practice together since convening in Columbus a few days ago. They'll begin the tournament schedule with a 3:30 p.m. game today at David's Rink when they face the Minnesota Wild, a team that is - like the Blue Jackets - a two-time champion of this event.
Columbus' prospects began the day before dawn, catching a 7:15 a.m. bus from the team hotel over to Center Ice for an 8:30 a.m. practice. They were first at the rink, beaten only the guy who unlocks the doors (that's a slight exaggeration, but we're close).
Here's how they skated in line rushes:
Extras: DiPaolo, Hope
Extra pair: MacLeod-Walters
A few other notes:
- Anton Forsberg was the first goalie off the ice following the morning practice, and he's expected to start this afternoon. I wouldn't be surprised to see Oscar Dansk get the call Friday night against Detroit.
- It's a little chilly here in Traverse City, but nothing like the temperature inside Center Ice Arena. Bring a coat, friends. It's "hockey weather" inside the building, for sure.
