Traverse City 2015: NHL Prospects Tournament HUB

UPDATE (SATURDAY): The Blue Jackets, down 4-3 after two periods to the Minnesota Wild, rallied with a five-goal third period to pull away on Saturday night. Oliver Bjorkstrand led the way, scoring twice in the third and the power play did its job, as well. Columbus is now 2-0-0 in the tournament, and next faces the New York Rangers on Monday afternoon (3:30 p.m. start). 

This year is Columbus’ 14th-straight appearance at the tournament. The tournament’s defending champions, the Blue Jackets also won the tournament in 2006 and 2007. This year’s participating clubs will be divided into the following:

TED LINDSAY DIVISION – Columbus, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues

GORDIE HOWE DIVISION – Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings

Practice sessions and tournament games will be held on the facility’s two sheets of ice – David’s Rink and West Rink – located at 1600 Chartwell Drive, Traverse City, Michigan, 49686 (Phone – 231/933-7465).

The Blue Jackets’ schedule includes:

Friday, Sept. 11
9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Practice (West Rink)

4:00 p.m. at ST. LOUIS (West Rink) -- 5-2 W

Saturday, Sept. 12
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Practice (West Rink)

7:00 p.m. vs. MINNESOTA (David’s Rink) -- 8-5 W

Sunday, Sept. 13
12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Practice (West Rink)

Monday, Sept. 14
9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Practice (West Rink)

3:30 p.m. at NEW YORK RANGERS (West Rink)

Tuesday, Sept. 15
Game – Opponent, Time and Rink TBD

The Blue Jackets’ rookie camp roster features 25 players, including 18 who were selected by the club via the NHL Draft. Leading the group will be two of the club’s first round picks in the last three NHL Drafts – 2014 first round pick Sonny Milano along with 2013 first round pick Kerby Rychel. Other drafted players participating in the tournament include: 2015 – Paul Bittner, Keegan Kolesar, Sam Ruopp Veeti Vainio; 2014 – Olivier LeBlanc, Julien Pelletier, Blake Siebenaler; 2013 – Oliver Bjorkstrand, Dillon Heatherington, Nick Moutrey, Peter Quenneville; 2012 – Josh Anderson, Joonas Korpisalo, Daniel Zaar; 2011 – T.J. Tynan.

The Blue Jackets rookies will be coached in Traverse City by Jared Bednar, head coach of the Lake Erie Monsters, the club's American Hockey League affiliate. He will be assisted by Monsters Assistant Coaches Nolan Pratt, Toby Petersen and Manny Legace, along with Blue Jackets Development Coach Chris Clark.
