Whether I am on the road or back in Columbus my game day will start with a cup of Coffee and the purchase of the local newspapers. Interestingly, out here in Vancouver when I went to the newsstand to buy the two local papers the "big story" today in both papers is the return of Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel. Arniel coached the Canucks' farm team in Manitoba to 45, 46, 50 and 41 win seasons prior to taking the reins in Columbus. He was considered to be the heir apparent to Vancouver head coach Alain Vigneault before he departed.
As you see by the front pages of BOTH the Vancouver Province and Vancouver Sun Sports Section Arniel is very highly thought of, not only by the Canucks themselves but the media out here on the West Coast of Canada. And so they should!
The Province headline on the Back Page of the Tabloid simply states "Arniel For Real: Former Moose Coach has Columbus off to best start in Franchise History." In the Vancouver Sun, columnist Cam Cole credits Arniel for the development of the young players on the Canucks. (Click on the picture to the left to view both photos)
Vigneault is quoted as saying he is not at all surprised what Arniel has done with the Blue Jackets in his short time with the team. "Arnie has really paid his dues and there was no doubt in my mind that one day he would get the opportunity and he did," Vigneault says.
Arniel, knowing him as I do, I am sure would rather have tonight's focus on the team and it will be come game time!
Kristian Huselius has been activated off IR this afternoon and will replace Derek MacKenzie on the active roster, as MacKenize was placed on injured reserve. Jared Boll remains out and is not expected to play. If Huselius does play tonight another player will have to be a healthy scratch.
After his relief performance on Monday, Mathieu Garon is the likely starter in goal tonight.
No home television tonight, so Bill and I will have tomorrow's final game on the road trip for you from Edmonton against the Oilers, but tune in to Bob and George on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and listen and then check BlueJackets.com for all your game recap, highlights, photos and more.
*Throughout the season, AAA will bring you the Broadcaster's Blog - Rimer's Game Day Ramblings. The Columbus Blue Jackets' television play-by-play man will try to keep you updated on all the season action through his blogs, especially when the Blue Jackets are on the road.
