Reality and Rumors!

by Bill Davidge / Columbus Blue Jackets

June 20

Reality ...

John Anderson is finally getting his due. He was named as the Head Coach of the Atlanta Thrashers and is in tune with the drafts and youngsters of the team. John coached the Chicago Wolves to the Calder Cup this year, the AHL affiliate of the parent club.

Jamaal Mayers is now a Toronto Maple Leaf. The quick, rugged winger or center man out of St. Louis returns to his hometown for a 3rd round pick in this years draft.

Jason Spezza is going nowhere. The star center signed a 7-year deal worth $49 million earlier in the year and will remain an Ottawa Senator. Bryan Murray says that people make up more stories than anyone can imagine… but this is true, but one can trade for him Bryan!!

A report is that Jeff Carter has signed a 3-year $15 million dollar deal to remain in Philly.

Dave Nonis is joining the Anaheim Ducks as an advisor to Brian Burke.

Dave Gagner returns to the NHL in Player Development with the Vancouver Cnaucks. He spent the last 2 years as an assistant coach in London of the OHL.

Darcy Hordichuk is out of Nashville and will find a home in Carolina. A tough kid from the hometown of Tyler Wright, packs some toughness and his bags to a team that can use his skills and candor.

Brain Rolston is about to test the market? Minnesota has not signed the UFA yet.

All of the NYR are set free…Rozsival, Avery, Jagr, Straka and Stranahan.

Rumors ...

RJ Umberger may soon become a Bluejacket. With his stock high after a great playoff, a 50 point season in Philly and the signing of Jeff Carter to the 3 year deal, it makes sense he is out the door in Philly… for who/what is the question.

The Russian league is interested in signing Malkin. He would become the highest paid hockey player today with a multi-year, $12.5 million deal per all tax free!!!

Pavel Kubina coming to the CBJ?... stay tuned… it is amazing what one reads!

Lecavalier is about to sign a lifetime deal with the Lightning.

Ok… enough is enough as far as rumors are concerned. This is the time of year where rumors are so bizarre that I would sooner talk about concrete trades that have happened. As one can tell, there is nothing earth shattering that has an affect on the CBJ… but stay tuned!!
