Quebec Pee Wee Blue Jackets: Update 6

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

On Tuesday the Jackets defeated the team from Germany 4-0. Details to come at a later time.

On Wednesday, backed by solid goaltending from Cam Beck and a strong showing by the Jackets D-men, the Jackets defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 1-0. Midway through first period, Mark Heneman scored the team's only goal as he beat the Carolina goaltender low on the left side corner with assists from line mates Jordan Rose and Austin Pooley. After a back and forth first period, the second and third periods saw unusually physical play for a non-checking game as the Carolina team racked up 18 penalty minutes to the Jackets eight penalty minutes.

An hour later the boys from Columbus faced off against a very strong and higher bracketed team from the Big Apple. The Jackets managed to keep the Isles to just one goal in the first period while killing off three penalties in a great showing by the Jackets penalty kill units. Four minutes into the second period, with the Jackets again on the penalty kill, winger Brock Rumbaugh caught the N.Y. defenseman off guard and scored a breakaway goal, scoring mid-net just above the goaltenders leg pads. Things did not go well after that for the Jackets as the Islanders scored six unanswered goals to defeat the Jackets 7-1.

The Jackets record in Quebec thus far is 3-4. Next up Austria.
