Post Game Quotes vs. Boston - Sept. 22, 2009

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Boston Bruins at Columbus Blue Jackets

Preseason – Sept. 22, 2009

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on the game…

"It was a 6-5 game, but it didn't feel like a 6-5 game because we did a lot of things really well. We didn't give up very many scoring chances, but the one's we did, ended up in our net. I thought we played pretty well. We put a lot of pressure on their defenseman."

"The second period, I thought we played great - probably the best period of hockey we've played. Overall, we really did a lot of good things today. We played with a lot of energy. Our energy never waned and we just kept playing."

Commenting on Jakub Voracek…
"Jake was really good from the red line in. He was really good at penetrating, creating scoring opportunities and going into scoring areas. He had not done that until tonight and we talked to him about that (type of play) the last day or two. He's got to start getting off the perimeter and get into the inside position, and he did that very well tonight."

"Tonight was the first night he scored because he went inside. He went to the net with and without the puck."

Commenting on the team play…
"This is our team and these guys are going to be around. Our team play for the last eight periods is going really well."

Commenting on Matt Calvert…
"He was great. He was really good. He's a really smart player that builds good minutes in a game. He really helps you in small areas… he does so many little things well for a young player that overall you could see how he could control a hockey game without getting points. He really plays an error-free game. He shields it well and makes smart plays, and has really good hands in tight spaces. I'm really impressed with him."

Commenting on traveling the day of the game…
"It's easier to play at this time of year. This is a huge disadvantage to travel the day of the game. It takes the teams that are doing this half the game to get warmed in – we were able to jump on them quickly."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Center Antoine Vermette

Commenting on the scoring…

"Yeah it was pretty good, the whole team played pretty well and we've scored a lot of goals the last two games and we scored fast so and now we need to get ready for Thursday."

Commenting on playing on a line with Jakub Voracek and Nikita Filatov…
"They are great players. They can pass and shoot the puck and it's always a pleasure to play with them and we will continue to play together and I hope this can work."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Nikita Filatov

Commenting on the first goal of the game…

"It was just a good forecheck and good play on the boards and a good jump by (Jakub) Voracek and a perfect check by (Antoine) Vermette."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Alexandre Picard

Commenting on the power play goal at the start of the second period…

"You know I had two good linemates, too and we just kind of played the same way and we brought the puck to the net."

Commenting on his game…
"I just try to play an all around game and I know Hitch likes forwards that can play defense, too. That is the biggest thing when your young, you’ve got to learn it, it's part of the game and I just want to keep on working hard and putting pucks in the net and take care of my own end at the same time."

Boston Bruins Quotes

Boston Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien

Commenting on tonight's game…

"Not really very inspirational to say the least. There is some work to be done here, lots of work before the season starts. We will make some of those corrections and hopefully we can get better here in the later part of training camp. I think we have some players that have to be better for us. Those are obviously players that have been here and they have to find their game and that is why there is still some work to do."

Boston Bruins Center Marc Savard
Commenting on tonight's game…

"It was pretty sloppy I think all around. We kept trying to tie it and we kept doing that. At least we got a point which still means something to us. You take the positives, we battle back, but it was a pretty sloppy game for us I think."

Boston Bruins Shawn Thornton
Commenting on his goal...

"My linemates did a great job on the forecheck and the puck came to me. I wanted to slide it across to Trent (Whitefield), but that wasn't there so I just threw it on net and it was lucky enough to go in."
