Post Game Quotes - Nov. 26

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Phoenix Coyotes at Columbus Blue Jackets

November 26, 2008 – Nationwide Arena

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…
"We should have put our foot right on their throat, that’s what we should have done. They weren't ready to play, we had everything going for us and we didn't bury the chances that we had – we had three or four goal posts and a couple crossbars."

Commenting on the tough loss, despite playing well…
"This is the third or fourth hockey game we've had like this in our building, where we've out played the team badly and not won. We should have won this game. What can I say – you have 35 scoring chances and score two goals – when you out play a team this badly and don't win, it's frustrating to everybody."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Center Derick Brassard
Commenting on the power play…

"You have a power play, 5-on-3, at the end and we've got to get it done. It's unacceptable, I think. In future games, I'd like to see us score goals and guys get put out there for a reason and that’s including myself. We're out there to score goals and that’s the bottom line."

Blue Jackets Defenseman Mike Commodore
Commenting on the special teams' play…

"Yeah, it's tough. Honestly it would have been nice to score on one of those power plays we had and then we just had the break down… and that's my fault and it's not a good feeling. You can tell we played pretty well, except a little bit in the second period and special teams again. We've got to sort that out some how."

Visiting Coach Quotes

Phoenix Coyotes Head Coach Wayne Gretzky
Commenting on tonight's game…

"First of all, our goaltender was absolutely brilliant, and when you get goaltending like that at this level, it goes a long way so that was the first part of the key. The second part of the equation was we got some efforts out of guys tonight; the extra effort that you have to have at this level to be successful. Then we got some timely goals from guys that don’t score a lot that work hard every night and do a real good job for us in the role they play."

Commenting on special teams…
"We did an outstanding job on the 5-on-3. The "D" made a couple blocks. Specialty teams was nice to see, we got a power play goal and that was a big factor. Then our penalty killing was really strong."

Commenting on getting a win…
"We didn't play as good as their team played tonight. Their team played, I thought, a very good hockey game against us and we ended up winning the hockey game, so how do you figure this game?… Sometimes it can be crazy."
