Post Game Quotes - March 14 vs. Chicago

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Chicago Blackhawks at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

Commenting on the game …
"We were really poor in our own zone. We weren't poor with our coverage; we were poor with the puck. I think everyone is really disappointed in the way we played in our own zone."

"I thought when we got it back to 3-2, we were going to win … that goal was disappointing. Then, to comeback and make it 4-3 and to give it up that quickly for the fifth, it was the same thing. We turned it over four times in our zone on the fifth goal."

"When you make the light plays in your own zone, (the puck) is going to end up in your net. We turning a lot of pucks over, we're light in that area and it’s coming back to kill us."

Visiting Head Coach Quotes

Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach Denis Savard

Commenting on tonight's game…
"Good win. We started very well in the first period. We were ready to play, bottom line. We needed some big saves from Patty (Patrick Lalime). But overall everyone played a solid game. That's what we have to continue to do if we want to get to the playoffs."

Commenting on responding to Columbus' two, second period goals…
"We made mistakes on a couple goals but we kept our composure. I like the poise that we had. We never panicked, kept going at them and got a good result."

Commenting on looking ahead the rest of the season…
"We're looking forward to getting home; apparently we are sold (out). Our guys like that and we talked about that yesterday. We said we'd take this one home have a little momentum and hopefully we can be a streaky team the rest of the way. We're going to take this one to the wire I can guarantee that."

Player Quotes

Columbus Blue Jackets Center Michael Peca

Commenting on the surprise of being down 3-0 after the first…
"We made a lot of points to recognize what happened the last time these guys were in here, how they got off to that quick start because we were soft in our own arena. We prepared ourselves to be on the initiating side of things tonight. We make a soft play a couple minutes in and it's in our net. We seemed to make a couple more soft plays that first period that got us down three. We knew we had a chance to still come back and we scored two quick ones and got ourselves back in it but just as we got close, we gave one back."

Commenting on tonight's game…
"It becomes demoralizing. When you've got a handful of players trying to pour it in and get ourselves back in it, we make uncommitted plays that result in a goal going in our net, it becomes frustrating internally that we can't recognize the importance of the situation and make strong plays and sacrifice ourselves to make those plays. To a man, we just weren't able to do that."

Columbus Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash

Commenting on the team's defensive play…
"The game was lost in our defensive end. It's clear we were giving up way too much and weren't battling hard enough. Just defensively, we weren't good enough."

Commenting on giving up the early goals…
"We knew from last game, we knew wanted to get a quick start. They came in and dominated and scored three quick ones. We showed a lot of character that we came back but it still wasn't good enough. We didn’t play a good enough game. We have to be playing a lot more desperate at this point in the season."

Columbus Blue Jackets Defenseman Ron Hainsey

Commenting on tonight's game…
"Same thing, turnovers. We got the puck, we got possession, we gave it away, in our net. That's never good, obviously."
