Minnesota Wild at Columbus Blue Jackets

January 10, 2009 – Nationwide Arena

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…
"I thought our first and third period were really good. I was impressed with how we started the game. We managed the game the right way in the first period and it gave us a good feeling. We played really well in the third and did a lot of good things to take over the game."

Commenting on getting a win at home after coming home from a six-game road trip…
"This was a trap game for us. Come back from a really long road trip, first game back … the fans really pushed us in the third period. We needed that and we weren't sure where our energy would be at, but we had good energy at the beginning and the end of the game."

Commenting on Nikita Filatov's hat trick…
"He's a scorer and he looks like a scorer on the ice. He gets shots through (to the net). He's a smart, smart offensive player. He positions himself, offensively, really well. He finds holes other people don’t look for (on the ice)."

Commenting on goaltender Steve Mason's play…
"He's solid every night. The goal that went in, we could see it from the bench, there were so many bodies, it was really flukie. The second goal, he never saw it. We trust him. We feel like we can win games, if we're leading with 10 minutes left to play because if he can see it, he's going to stop it. That's the feeling we have with him."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes
Blue Jackets Center Nikita Filatov
Commenting on how he feels scoring his first NHL hat trick…
"It's unbelievable. (I don't have) nothing else to say. I have so many emotions, so many feelings. Unbelievable moment."

Commenting on playing with Michael Peca and Jakub Voracek…
"I think it was a perfect line for tonight. We got a lot of chances, we played well in our zone and I think that was really good. It was a very good game for us."

Commenting on laying down on the ice to block a shot…
"The first time I was sent down to Syracuse (AHL) I learned a few lessons right away. I learned a lot of things there and how to play defense. Right now, if I get the chance to block a shot, I am going to go block it."

Blue Jackets Center Michael Peca
Commenting on playing on a line with rookies Nikita Filatov and Jakub Voracek…
"I said before the game that I am almost 35 and their combined age is 37, so I knew I was going to have fun."

Commenting on whether he had to communicate with his linemates more or not…
"I might talk to them a little bit more. I mean, there's these little nuances of the game on the defensive side of it, so I have to make sure that I am communicating with them a little more. But on offense, no. We just seem to read off each other. It seemed pretty effortless when we got into the offensive zone at times. They’re both really good offensive players and it's a lot of fun to play with them."

Commenting on assisting on two of Filatov's three goals…
"It was my pleasure. He is a great young kid with a great attitude and a bright future. Any time you can be a part of a great moment for a young player like that, it's great."

Commenting on the younger players stepping up…
"I think it was tough for him (Filatov) at the start of the year. He is coming off a tremendous World Juniors and with the injuries, it just seemed to fit for timing and we played great. He’s got a lot of confidence in himself and he brings confidence out of his linemates, for me and Jake, play with a real upbeat attitude. It's really just a lot of fun to play with those guys and I think that we knew our depth in the organization would be tested during this stretch and I think we've come through pretty well."

Minnesota Wild Head Coach Jacques Lemaire
Commenting on the lack of scoring chances tonight…
"Nothing. Nothing, because we didn't skate like we can skate. It looked like we played last night, and that's happened a few times this year."

Commenting on the Blue Jackets young players…
"Yeah, they played good. They just keep working. They're good with the puck, they got good shots."

Commenting on battles for the puck…
"When you look at their team coming up (the ice) they beat people. One-on-one they beat people. How many times did we beat people? We have to be better with that."

Commenting on his team's energy tonight…
"This cannot happen. To show up like this, it can't happen. I thought the first period was fine. Second period, I thought we would be better, and we were not. I said, 'Well, the third period we'll probably get our legs and get going.' It was even worse. We had no legs at all in the third. So, what can you do?"

Minnesota Wild Player Quotes
Minnesota Wild Center Pierre-Marc Bouchard
Commenting on the third period…
"They got some quick goals, and got momentum, and we were unable to hold them back."

Minnesota Wild Right Wing Owen Nolan
Commenting on the team's consistency…
"We got enough character and talent that we do good things, but it's just a matter of us getting some consistency."

Minnesota Wild Center Eric Belanger
Commenting on tonight's game…
"Maybe after their second goal we dropped a little bit. Then their third goal kind of put us down. We were working hard, we were skating well, we had chances to score; they're just not going in. We were playing well until then."
