Post Game Quotes - Feb. 10 vs. San Jose

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

San Jose Sharks at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Interim Head Coach Claude Noel
Commenting on tonight's game…

"I really enjoyed the game. I had fun and that's it. The result was what we wanted. I would never look at it as us clicking out there. This game for me was going to tell me how intelligent our team was and I asked members of the staff to look for that."

Commenting on the goal celebration by Derick Brassard and Jakub Voracek…
"It's the passion, and passion shows in different ways… other guys (around the NHL) do that as well. It was good to have Brass (congratulate Jake) because you could sincerely see his feelings, and I thought that was good."

Commenting on shutting down San Jose's top line…
"It didn't matter who had shots for them, but I thought we played a hard game."

Commenting on the play of goaltender Steve Mason
"I thought Mase was great. I didn't think he had to be great for the whole 60 minutes, but he was really good when he had to (be) and he made some marvelous saves. He's one of the reasons why we won the game."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Goaltender Steve Mason

Commenting on the win…

"Anytime you can beat a number one hockey club in this League, it's a big victory and for ourselves, we're in the playoff race and these are one of the teams we're going to have to go through to get back in the standings and these were a big two points for us."

Commenting on the penalty kill…
"I think our penalty kill was the biggest thing. I don't know how many chances and opportunities they had, but our defensemen and forwards did a great job really clearing lanes and getting loose pucks out of the zone. To me that was the biggest difference with our penalty kill tonight."

Commenting on his second-straight shutout…
"It's great. The only time you can get a shutout, it's a team effort and tonight I thought out first two periods were great and you know obviously in the third, you know, I think we kind of sat back a little when they had their opportunities. But at the end of the day, we got these two points against a really good hockey club."

Blue Jackets Right Wing Jakub Voracek

Commenting on tonight's game…

"Obviously when you're winning, you feel better and better every game and Mase (Steve Mason) again was unbelievable. The last few games he's been unstoppable."

Commenting on his goal…
"Yeah it was a great pass, and you know, he just tried to give it backhand and tried to get it five-hole and it slowed down between his pads and I was lucky it went in."

Commenting on snapping his 26-game goalless skid…
"Obviously, you know, I mean 26 games is a long streak, you know, and I was very happy and I had to let it out and you know it's a big win and a big goal."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Rick Nash

Commenting on the success against San Jose at home…

"Yeah, it's tough to get the change there (on the road). You know most teams play a lot better at home as well and they had the streak going there, but I don't know. Tonight we just played a bit more freely and played more offensively."

Commenting on Voracek snapping his goalless skid…
"Yeah, it was good. I didn't know how long it was until someone said something between periods, so now I understand the celebration and stuff. But it's good that their clicking again. I mean, obviously they have had chemistry all year and sometimes you go through tough stretches."

San Jose Sharks Quotes

San Jose Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I think it was more our guys tonight than (Blue Jackets goalie Steve) Mason. It's hard enough to win playing one period in September when you have a bunch of rookies in the lineup. And then you do that again here in February, play one period, the third period, you have no chance of winning. So it's disappointing that for 40 minutes we didn't have a lot of pop. We didn't execute very well. We didn't put a lot of pressure on them. They deserved to win."

Commenting on lack of focus in tonight's game…
"I think there was a lack of focus on our part. We were a little loose around our net on the first one. The second one was a clear turnover. We spoke about turnovers in that area of the ice, how important it was. Then after that we didn't pass the puck well in the first two periods. I think that is a direct result of being focused."

San Jose Sharks Center Patrick Marleau

Commenting on outshooting the Jackets and still coming up with a loss…

"It seems that's the was it sometimes goes. I think he (Mason) made some pretty good stops. We had our chances we just didn't take advantage of it."

Commenting on end of their nine-game road winning streak…
"We have a chance to go redeem ourselves tomorrow night. So we will put in our memory banks and go against Detroit tomorrow night."

San Jose Sharks Center Joe Pavelski

Commenting on tonight's game…

"Obviously we didn't cash in on our chances. We had some speed going. We had the puck in their end. I felt like we had more puck possession and some better chances but just couldn't get one in."
