Colorado Avalanche (0) at Columbus Blue Jackets (3)

February 10, 2009 – Nationwide Arena

Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…
"Our forwards match-up well against their defenseman, for whatever reason. We saw that in the first game we played there and it's just a good match for us."

Commenting on earning the two points…
"We could not afford to lose this hockey game. We've got a really tough next 10 days of our season. Our players recognized the sense of urgency (we needed to play with tonight). Going out in the third period you could feel it. The best period we've played at home in awhile was the first period. The other thing is we won without our best players being our best players. When you have teams below you in the standings, you have to get points."

Commenting on center Andrew Murray…
"Murray was supposed to be out tonight based on an injury. When (Derek) Dorsett got sick, Murray had to go in and play. We were proud of him today, he played banged up. He was a good player in the game today."

Commenting on goaltender Dan LaCosta …
"Everybody is so excited for him. He played solid again. He's a big guy that moves around the net really well. I thought he looked better today than he did the last game. He had more activity today than he did in the game against San Jose. He had to make saves today, more than he did against San Jose."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes
Blue Jackets Goaltender Dan LaCosta
Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was a great team effort. I didn't feel that great at the start. We played so good there in the first they never really had any chances. It gave me a chance to get in the game and get focused. Everyone really did a great job tonight."

Commenting on his first career shutout…
"It's pretty surreal. This time last week if someone would have told me this would have happened I would have said 'no chance.' It's great right now and I'm just going to enjoy it as much as I can."

Blue Jackets Center Jason Williams
Commenting on his goal…
"We were down low in our zone… Chimmer (Jason Chimera) made a strong play along the boards... Jake (Jakub Voracek) came across and supported him… I sort of picked up the puck after he cleared it to the side… I tried to give the goalie a fake and get it on net."

Commenting on tonight's game…
"We had a lot of good scoring chances, kept playing pucks towards the net. (Peter) Budaj played really well and made some good saves to keep them in it."

Blue Jackets Center Andrew Murray
Commenting on some teammates battling the flu…
"A few guys had to battle through it the last couple games… It's just a matter of battling that kind of stuff. You're not going to feel 100 percent all the time; you just have to keep working hard."

Commenting on his goal that was waived off…
"It was more of a reactionary thing. I was going to the net and the rebound kind of trampolined off the goalie. More or less it was just going right at my head so I just kind of put my hand out."

Commenting on the goal he scored...
"I just tried to take it to the net there. There wasn't much there it just kind of dribbled through and I don't know if he thought I was going to cut in a little bit more. He came off his post a little bit. It's one of those things you put it on net and hope for the best."

Colorado Avalanche Head Coach Tony Granato
Commenting on tonight's game…
"The first period we weren't really good and our goalie (Peter Budaj) kept us in it. The second period I thought we played way better. It looked like we got our legs and started to play the way we wanted to, and you knew how big the first goal in the third period would be. They kept coming and kept coming, and we had our opportunities when the game was on the line and he (Columbus goaltender Dan LaCosta) was good. Did we get enough screen shots on him, enough rebounds? No, but he made a few pretty darn good saves. He was good, but we didn't play 60 minutes."

Commenting on the possibility of being in last place in the Western Conference…
"You deal with some different situations in a professional career and that's part of a team. If you open the paper up tomorrow morning and we're in that position, that's not a fun place to for us to be. We're going to have to work to get out of it. We're going to have to play more consistent, we're going to have to play better, we're going to have to play 60 minutes, we're going to have to battle like crazy."

Colorado Avalanche Player Quotes
Colorado Avalanche Defenseman John-Michael Liles
Commenting on tonight's game…
"Considering we didn't start out very well in the first with only four shots, we started out behind the 8-ball a little bit. Boods (goaltender Peter Budaj) kept us in it there. We just couldn't put it in the net."

Commenting on Columbus goaltender Dan LaCosta…
"I thought he was solid when he had to be. They're a good team defensively. They played well in front of him."
